About
We’re a small shop in Northern California, using sustainably sourced bamboo to craft the most beautiful, earth-friendly homeware possible. We offer a more sustainable alternative to regular hardwood homeware and furniture, while also helping to reverse climate change.
Giving Back
We’ve partnered with the Climate Foundation because they have one of the most promising solutions to reverse climate change, Marine Permaculture. The Climate Foundation recently won the million-dollar XPRIZE for carbon removal funded by Elon Musk and the Musk Foundation. We want our future generations to enjoy a place with clean abundant oceans, rivers and lakes, majestic forests, and a chance to see this planet thrive like it once did. To help achieve this goal, 5% of our profits are donated to the Climate Foundation. Every one of our customers is part of the solution to help reverse climate change.
COMBATING Climate Change
We use bamboo because it’s one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. Bamboo’s growth rate is stunning, growing approximately 1.5 inches per hour or about 35 inches per day. Bamboo is actually considered a large grass, which is the largest member of the grass family Poaceae. One of the most important features of bamboo is the rapid rate it reaches maturity. Bamboo can reach maturity in just 3-5 years compared to other woods that need 20 years or more to mature. Being able to harvest bamboo within 3-5 years makes bamboo a highly sustainable resource to help fight climate change.
One of the main concerns regarding climate change is the warming of our oceans and the rise in concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Bamboo is known to sequester more carbon, and do it up to ten times as fast as regular trees. Compared to an equivalent tree mass, bamboo produces 35% more oxygen and can absorb 12 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare per year, which is 2 to 5 times as much carbon as an equivalent tree mass. Bamboo is also very strong. Bamboo has a higher tensile strength than many alloys of steel, a higher compressive strength than many mixtures of concrete and a higher strength-to-weight ratio than graphite. Bamboo’s superior strength and ability to sequester tons of carbon every year makes bamboo an excellent resource to help fight climate change.
Conserving Our Forests
We only use sustainably sourced bamboo to craft all of our products. The bamboo we use is independently verified to ensure that the bamboo products originate from responsibly managed forests. We also use bamboo products that are ULEF- and NAF-certified. We want our customers to know they’re receiving a product that won’t affect their indoor air quality with the off-gassing of harmful chemicals. The Life Cycle Analysis of our bamboo is also carbon negative, even with shipments from overseas.
